These photos by Jon Bell show the changes at the end of the line.  Here a PCC car approaches the turnaround loop at Franklin Avenue, now renamed Branch Brook Park Station.  It has passed the pedestrian ramp (far left) that leads from the now-closed Heller Parkway Station a block away.

This photo shows the new extension under construction, branching off from the turnaround loop, where a PCC car is making its tight turn back toward downtown.  In 2002 the loop was removed.  The new track crosses Franklin Avenue at grade.

The new City Subway route then climbs an embankment to hook up to the old Erie RR's Orange Branch.  Two new stations have been added: Silver Lake, in Belleville, and Grove Street, in Bloomfield, where the new storage and maintenance shops are located.
