TThe Rescue of the
Fr. Washington Monument

In the Eighth Grade I was a patrol boy at St. Rose of Lima School, and my post was the corner of Seventh Avenue and Ninth Street, specifically the northeast corner, one of the points of the little triangle of real estate that accommodated the
Fr. John Patrick Washington monument
I looked at it often but not until later in life appreciated the meaning behind it.  Here from the St. Rose Archive
are some photos and documents concerning
its 1982 change of address.
