Dickie Dee's Reunion, Part 2

Almost as an afterthought, we'd decided to take a look at the old school.  We found the exterior pretty much as we'd remembered it.  In fact, a new enclosed entryway had been added, thanks to the good communicants of "sister church" St. Rose of Lima in Short HillsBob Davis had arranged with Principal Art Wilson for a modest tour, and we all trooped in, not knowing quite what to expect.

First thing we noticed: The old principal's office had been turned into a bathroom!  Who's laughing now, Sister Gertrude James?

I wanted to include a picture of Art Wilson, and the one I took inside the school didn't turn out so well.  I took this one the next day when I dropped by again.  I caught him in his Saturday wear working Bingo and answering a parishioner's questions.  He is an able and charismatic fellow, as well as a fine ambassador; he devoted a good part of his Friday to giving us a guided tour.

Except for the lockers in place of wooden coat closets, the hallways were largely unchanged.  At the end of the hall is the elevator, which was out of service.  (So Bob Davis, you needn't have brought your key.)  Although we had expected the briefest of tours, Mr. Wilson brought us to every classroom and introduced his visitors.
